Objectives
The aim of the Pi Iota At-Large Chapter (PIALC) Academic Scholarship is to recognize academic excellence, outstanding community nursing services and research achievement of student members.
Benefits and resources
  1. Members can get personalized career advice through volunteer advisers and build a portfolio using the official platform for e-portfolio services of the American Nurses Credentialing Center and STTI.
  2. By participating in PIC, volunteering, or attending events, members can connect with other members in person or electronically. Retired nurses and nurses transitioning into retirement can also stay connected with STTI and the nursing profession.
  3. Members can enjoy STTI newsletters and professional nursing journals to advance knowledge with nursing research and evidence-based nursing.
  4. Members can take advantages from Nursing Research Congresses, clinical and nurse manager skills sets.
  5. STTI and collaborating nursing organizations provide various research grant opportunities to nurse around the world.
  6. Awards nominations can recognize the achievements and activities of members with international and chapter rewards.
Criteria to become a member
Undergraduate students
  • have completed half of the nursing curriculum
  • achieve academic excellence. (At schools where a 4.0 grade-point average system is used, this equates to a 3.0 or higher.)
  • rank in the upper 35th percentile of the graduating class
  • meet the expectation of academic integrity

STTI membership should be renewed annually. The society will send email to remind you about the membership renewal period and process each year.
Categories of PIALC Academic Scholarships
There are 3 categories of scholarships and a total of 9 awards
  • Category A
    PIALC Academic Scholarship for Pre-registration Bachelor and Master Students (maximum 3 awards)
    Nomination Form

    PIALC Academic Scholarship for Post-registration Master Students (maximum 3 awards)

Provision of the Scholarships
  • Each awardee will receive a monetary award of HK$1,000 for the Academic Scholarship; and
  • The awardee will be nominated to apply for Sigma Scholarship Awards subject to the availability of the Awards; and
  • Their research projects will be published in the PIALC newsletter and social media.
The scholarships are tenable for the 2022/23 year only.
Eligibility:
Candidates should be:
  • student nurses studying in the pre-registration Bachelor or Master programme, or registered nurses studying in post-registration Master, Doctoral or PhD programme in Hong Kong; and
  • active members of the PIALC (non-members should agree to be inducted as members); and
  • able to attend the Induction Ceremony to receive the Awards; and
  • never received Scholarship Awardsfrom the Pi Iota Chapter nor PIALC under any category; and
  • supported by their Programme Leaders / Coordinators / Directors or Academic Supervisors.
Selection Criteria
Category A
  • student nurses who are studying in the pre-registration Bachelor or Master programme in Hong Kong; and/li>
  • achieve outstanding academic performance with a minimum cGPA of 3.0 or above; and
  • have completed half of the programme; and
  • meet the expectation of academic integrity; and
  • consistently demonstrated outstanding nursing services for the Hong Kong community in the 2022/23 academic year; and
  • the submitted project should be contributed to the Hong Kong community in the 2022/23 academic year.
Category B
  • student nurses who are studying in the post-registration Master programme in Hong Kong; and
  • achieve outstanding academic performance with a minimum cGPA of 3.0 or above; and
  • have completed half of the programme; and
  • meet the expectation of academic integrity; and
  • consistently played a crucial role in the nursing services for the Hong Kong community in the 2022/23 academic year; and
  • the submitted project should be contributed to the Hong Kong community in the 2022/23 academic year.
Category C
  • student nurses who are studying in the Doctoral or PhD programme in Hong Kong; and
  • have completed 1/4 of the programme; and
  • meet the expectation of academic integrity; and
  • demonstrate remarkable innovation or accomplishments in the discipline; and
  • have at least one publication in international peer-reviewed journal as the first author or as the first speaker of oral presentation in an international conference disseminating results generated from the current doctoral or PhD study in the 2022/23 academic year; and
  • the submitted project should be contributed to the Hong Kong community in the 2022/23 academic year.
Pi Iota Chapter Scholarship

The aim of this scholarship is to recognize academic excellence and outstanding scholastic achievement and community nursing services in the chapter.


Eligibility:
  • Students studying in undergraduate or graduate nursing programmes in Hong Kong OR members of the Pi Iota Chapter (applicable only to community leaders who made contribution on community services);
  • Agree to be inducted as members of the Pi Iota Chapter (except existing members); and
  • Attend the ceremony to receive the award;
  • Have never received scholarship from the Pi Iota Chapter, STTI.

Application Form
Application
Candidates should complete the application form of their corresponding categories together with a summary of their research projects: Category A: ≤1,000 words, Category B: ≤1,200 words, Category C: ≤1,500 words. The application forms should be signed by the candidates and their Programme Leaders / Coordinators / Directors or Academic Supervisors. Submission of application via email: [email protected] on or before 31 July 2023.
Expectation of Submission Applicable to the Scholarship of All Categories
Excellence in scholastic achievement is recognized, which can be showcased in a project, regardless of whether it has an output of several papers or just one paper. The scholarship is not about the number of published papers produced from a project but whether the project has merits meeting the excellence criteria of the scholarship awards. The primary focus of the submission should be a document that reflects the attainment of outstanding scholastic achievement in nursing and improvement in health care, which is the objective of the PIALC Academic Scholarship Awards as well as the mission of Sigma.
Points to be Noted
  • All the submissions will be rated by a panel of reviewers which include at least three reviewers.
  • The final decision on the awards will be made by the Scholarship Committee and the PIALC Board.
  • The Scholarship Awards will be announced by end of September 2023 via email.
  • The awards will be presented at the Induction Ceremony scheduled in October 2023.
